Following an 11-year career in the MLB, former All-Star, Billy Martin stepped into a career in management. 8 years after his retirement, he managed the Minnesota Twins for just one year in spite of posting a 97-65 record. He went on to manage the Tigers and the Texas Rangers for 3 years each before finding success with the New York Yankees. Martin spent 7 of his 11 years with the Yankees, winning 5 World Series. After becoming the manager in the middle of the 1975 season, Martin found similar success as a manager, winning 2 AL Pennants and his only Worlds Series title of his management career.
